Press Release By The Team:
The Florida Everblades used two goals apiece from Dan Sisca and Vince Bellissimo, and 35 saves by goaltender Kevin Nastiuk to even their best-of-five series vs. Gwinnett at one with a 7-3 victory at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Special teams ruled the first period of play with each team notching a special teams goal. Gwinnett opened the scoring by tallying their third power play goal of the series when Derek Nesbitt deflected a point shot from Troy Milam past Nastiuk at 5:14 of the period. The Everblades however responded with their fifth short-handed goal of the post season when Sisca notched his first playoff goal at 10:46 by slipping completing a breakaway and slipping a shot past Gwinnett net-minder Sean Fields.
In the second period the Everblades erupted for three goals to grab a 4-1 advantage heading into the intermission. Sisca started the scoring spree by notching his second goal of the night at 7:31 to open a 2-1 lead. The Everblades increased the lead with a 4-on-3 power play goal by Chris Lee at 9:52, then opened the three-goal lead when Dustin Johner tallied a power play goal with 1.9 seconds remaining in the frame.
A wild third period saw the Gladiators come out firing. Gwinnett out-shot the Everblades 16-1 in the first 13 minutes of the final period, scoring twice in that span to trim the Florida lead to one. Nesbitt notched his second goal of the night for Gwinnett at 6:22 of the frame to cut the Everblades lead in half, then Jon Awe tallied his first playoff goal at 12:52 to cut the 'Blades lead to 4-3.
After a 30 second timeout by the Everblades Florida converted on a 3-on-1 rush with Bellissimo wristing home his third playoff goal at 13:10. Just 1:24 later Bellissimo opened a 6-3 Florida lead by one-timing a Ryan Brindley pass by Fields from the bottom of the left circle. The Everblades closed out the scoring watching Drew Larman slip a rebound into the net with just 2:44 remaining in regulation.
Making his first ever playoff start, Nastiuk earned the win by making several spectacular saves throughout the night, including 15 in the third period. Fields (2-1) suffered his first loss of the post-season by allowing the seven goals on 29 Florida shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 2-for-8, and the Gladiators closed out the night going 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
